On 7 and 8 June 2017, communication experts from eight functional airspace blocks (FAB) met in Langen to participate in the 1st InterFAB Communication Workshop organised by FABEC and hosted by DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung).

Robert Schickling, DFS Managing Director Operations, opened the workshop highlighting the importance of a coordinated communication among the FABs in order to facilitate the achievement of common goals in line with the European Commission regulations.

The workshop aimed to provide a first platform to coordinate communication and to share information and best practises to be used in the future by the different FABs and their member ANSPs. During the meeting communicative aspects of issues from across the FABs, such as performance, traffic development, EU regulations and customer relations management were examined. The programme was rounded off by speeches on topics such as the EU FAB study and a comparison of air navigation services in Europe and the USA.

The first InterFAB Communication Workshop was initiated by the Communication Cell of FAB Europe Central (FABEC COM CELL) and it is planned to take place on a regular basis in the future. Roland Beran, Chairman of the FABEC COM CELL, summarised the event: “The intensive and open exchange clearly showed that functional airspace blocks are again a topic that is gathering momentum across Europe. I am particularly pleased about the many topics we agreed upon as well as the partners’ willingness to get involved in interFAB activities.”
